Math
Students will be continuing chapters on multiplication and division. Topic 5 focuses on applying strategies to achieve fluency with multiplication and division facts within 100.
*Please continue to work on memorizing multiplication facts with your child at home.
Science
We will finally be completing out Amplify Science, “Balancing Forces” unit. Students have been exploring the problem of the floating train. In chapter 4 students will explore why the train floats even though gravity is acting on it.
Cursive Writing
Continue to practice the following letters at home, which have been covered so far: lowercase a, b, c, e, f, h, i, j, k, l, o, p, r, s, t, u.
Reading
We will be finishing our Into Reading Module 4, students will be able to answer the essential question, “Why might some stories be better told as plays?” The reading skills covered in this module include elements of drama, as well as literary elements. Students will practice retelling stories and summarizing the details through plays and other videos.
Writing
In Module 4 of Into Reading, students will keep working on publishing a narrative. The theme of the stories will be around how family and friends can always help us. Children will learn how to integrate narrative elements and dialogue. Students will include a problem, solution, and lesson learned as well. During the grammar portion of our writing block, students will study pronouns, plural nouns, and the proper use of quotation marks.
Social Studies
In our next unit in social studies, we will begin a study of the country of China. We will begin by exploring the geography, and cuisine of the country along with the history. Students will also explore special holidays and cultural days.
